Shannon Fertitta is the Executive Director of RIOS (The Recycling Industry Operating Standard), helping recyclers improve safety, quality, environmental performance, and operational excellence through certification. A Louisiana native, she has spent 24 years in the nonprofit sector, leading initiatives that promote responsible electronics recycling, expand digital inclusion, promote health and safety, and strengthen communities. She lives in Baton Rouge, LA, with her family.
Why you’re excited to be involved with The Recycling Society and the Million Cans Recycling Contest? It’s MAGICAL when work and fun intersect! I can’t wait to rally adults and children alike to save valuable materials from the landfills and littering the coast and waterways of the Gulf Coast, while discovering the financial and community benefits of recycling.
Fun fact, hobby, or anything you’d like people to know about you: I was a Girl Scout troop leader for 5 years “building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.” I enjoy sci-fi and zombies, 80’s and 90’s pop culture, and great music.
